I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 1.9

People who understand the need to accept Jesus as Savior, in order to have their souls saved and be protected from the attacks of the kingdom of darkness, will do everything they can to help others, from all nations, to know who the Son of God is and what the Savior has for them after they surrender to Him. The world needs to know the saved!

John was exiled to the island of Patmos when Domitian ruled the Roman Empire. The intention was to silence a voice that showed people how much they needed Christ. Although he suffered when he was sent to that desolate place, John was visited there by the angel of the Lord so that he could understand the revelations and recover from the evil he had suffered. The book of revelations was written during this period (Revelation 1:1-3).

In Revelation, the apostle identifies himself as a servant (v. 1), your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, (v. 9a). While the Caesars indulged in orgies, in that lonely place John received a visit from the King of kings, who filled him with peace and patience. He understood the reason he had been sent to that island, where he wrote down everything he had learned from Jesus about what would one day come to pass. Some prophecies were fulfilled at that time; others will be fulfilled in the future. What a blessing!

John said he lived in the patience of Jesus Christ. You see, the patience of the saints; (Revelation 14.12) is one of the blessings that will lead us to spiritual fulfillment (Galatians 5:22; Ephesians 4:13). Christ has not yet taken us to Heaven after saving us because He wants us to proclaim the Gospel to those who are lost in our generation and teach them the meaning and importance of doing the Lord's will. We need to talk about what God promises to all who know the Truth and walk in it.

John was not moody or angry with anyone for being on that island. He was there for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. (Revelation 1.9b). The saved should never be upset if these two reasons also take them to the farthest corners of the earth. Now, it is infinitely better to be far from everything and everyone, even our family, if our God has sent us there!

When the Word reached us, everything concerning life and holiness was given to us by the power of God (2 Peter 1:3), so we must serve the Lord joyfully, regardless of where He places us. The most important thing is to know that He promised to be with us always: No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you (Joshua 1.5). What more could a servant of God need?

The words of the Most High to Joshua apply to those who surrender their lives to Christ and are sent to witness about Him to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8). Those anointed by the Holy Spirit will experience His true love in a special way. Like Joshua, who replaced Moses in the leadership of Israel, we represent Jesus and receive authority from Him to do the same works (John 14:12).

Today's Prayer

Lord, our Guide and Protector! John was banished to the distant island of Patmos, but he neither questioned nor complained, saying that You had not protected him from such human wickedness. You were there with Your servant for his good!

John recognized that the reason for his exile was Your Word. Had he not embraced it, he would have been free, yet vulnerable to the enemy's cunning snares. Therefore, have mercy on this person who, instead of acting like Your servant, acts like a spoiled child, complaining about everything! You are also their strength!

The apostle cited the testimony of Jesus Christ as another factor that led to his imprisonment on Patmos and years away from family, friends, and brothers in Christ. However, despite his old age, John did not become ill, because You were with him and renewed him. To You be the glory!
